An Appeal for Help from The Vintage Bunting Hire Company
Some of you may know that I was recently diagnosed with advanced terminal cancer. Having been given six weeks to live, lost our unborn son, then given six months to live, I have undergone six cycles of aggressive chemotherapy, radiotherapy on my bones and three weekly cycles of cytotoxic, antibody and bone strengthening medicines.
I found out on the 11th November that the cancer has spread to a fifth area, the brain. I have to have am immediate emergency course of five days of whole brain radiotherapy, which will cause total hair loss, memory loss and impaired concentration. With immediate effect, I am also not allowed to drive. A challenge when living in rural Suffolk, with six young children and as a self-employed person. I( will then need immediately six more cycles of chemotherapy, which will take until around July, if I can make it that far. The brain mets cannot be removed or shrunk,, as they are too numerous and too widespread – it is a matter of holding them now for as long as possible. Currently, they are pressing on my optic nerves and causing visual disturbance, aura and hallucinations. They were also causing rapid weight loss and sickness,. Pretty hard if you sew and create for a living.
I have worked hard all of my life, have been self-employed for the past sixteen years, and have worked my socks off to raise my beautiful family for the most part alone having divorced my first husband as not being up to scratch, marrying again under these difficult circumstances the most amazing husband in the entire world on Valentine’s Day this year (I chose the right one this time!).
Despite being officially unfit for work since New Year’s Eve, I am not entitled to benefits, or additional help from the government, and have continued to try to work in-between the bad weeks and months as hard as I possibly can in order to provide for my family. This has put us under enormous financial pressure, to add to the emotional and physical pressure that the family are already under.
Please can I implore you to all share the following link – I need to fund raise in order to afford a wig to normalise the hair loss for my young children and also need to be able to pay for transport for the family from time to time. I had waist length hair all of my life, which I had to have cut off to shoulder length days after losing my baby, in order to maximise the success of keeping any hair at all with the very unpleasant and painful cold capping system during the chemotherapy. I had this cut for the first time two weeks ago, to bring the new hair which has grown from the three areas that were lost in line with the “normal” hair, taking three inches of old damaged hair off. I have done really well to come out of seven months of chemotherapy with an almost full head of hair, and now I will lose it all. I have to have the treatment as it is my only chance to stay here as long as possible with my amazing husband and my beautiful son and five beautiful girls.
